POSITION SUMMARY

The Commercial Refrigeration Technician is responsible for performing expert-level installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems to keep CSCM's clients' operations running efficiently and without interruption.

ABOUT CSCM

CSCM is a family and veteran-owned commercial repair and HVAC company serving the metropolitan St. Louis area, built on over 20 years of delivering superior workmanship and consistent, responsive service to a loyal base of long-term commercial clients. Their team of experienced technicians specializes in high-quality repair, refrigeration, and HVAC solutions, dedicated to diagnosing and resolving commercial equipment challenges efficiently and with precision. Committed to a philosophy of exceptional customer service and quality workmanship, CSCM exists to keep businesses running smoothly and to be the trusted service partner their clients count on year after year.

SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • You consistently diagnose and repair commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems correctly the first time, minimizing client downtime and return visits through accurate troubleshooting and quality workmanship.
  • Your service records are thorough, timely, and accurate, giving the team full visibility into every job so that follow-up service, warranty tracking, and parts management run without friction.
  • Clients trust you as the face of CSCM in the field because you show up professionally, communicate clearly, and leave every site cleaner and better than you found it.

OBJECTIVES

  • Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial refrigeration units, HVAC systems, and related mechanical equipment across a variety of commercial property types.
  • Interpret schematics, technical manuals, and HVAC design plans to accurately diagnose issues and implement effective, lasting solutions.
  • Conduct routine inspections of refrigeration systems, air conditioning units, boilers, and plumbing infrastructure to verify compliance with safety standards and confirm operational efficiency.
  • Utilize specialized diagnostic tools, including ohmmeters, to identify and repair electrical circuits and mechanical components.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex HVAC/R issues and appliance repair tasks while adhering to all applicable safety protocols and CSCM's service standards.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all service activities, including repairs performed, parts used, labor time, and system performance data for reporting and warranty purposes.
  • Assist with property maintenance tasks including general mechanical upkeep and equipment repair as assigned by management.
  • Communicate job status, delays, parts needs, and any issues encountered on site to the manager in a timely and professional manner.
  • Manage the tools, equipment, and inventory in your company vehicle, keeping it organized, stocked, and maintained in compliance with company standards.
  • Represent CSCM professionally at all client sites, maintaining a clean, courteous, and solution-focused presence in every interaction with business owners and staff.
  • Complete all service calls within the timeframes established by the team and communicate proactively when additional time or resources are needed.
  • Stay current on industry code requirements, refrigerant regulations, and equipment manufacturer updates to ensure all work meets or exceeds applicable standards.

COMPETENCIES

  • You diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems with precision, drawing on your technical knowledge and field experience to get to root causes rather than treating symptoms.
  • You work effectively and independently in the field, managing your schedule, your vehicle, and your tools without needing constant oversight, while staying aligned with the team's priorities.
  • You read and interpret schematics, technical manuals, and equipment diagrams with confidence, applying what you find directly to the problem in front of you.
  • You communicate clearly and professionally with both clients and internal team members, keeping everyone informed without overpromising or creating unnecessary alarm.
  • You take pride in doing things right and hold yourself accountable for the quality of your work, going back to verify before you leave that the job is actually done.
  • You handle the physical and logistical demands of field service work without complaint, managing time, travel, and varying job conditions with consistency and a positive attitude.
  • You follow safety protocols as a standard, not an afterthought, because you understand that protecting yourself, your team, and the client's property is non-negotiable.
  • You are a reliable presence for the clients and the company, showing up on time, completing what you committed to, and treating every job as a reflection of CSCM's reputation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience as a service technician with a demonstrated focus on commercial refrigeration and/or HVAC systems, including hands-on installation, maintenance, and repair in commercial field environments.
  • EPA Section 608 certification required; additional HVAC/R certifications or trade school credentials are strongly preferred and will be considered in the hiring decision.
  • Familiarity with schematics, HVAC design principles, and the ability to read and apply technical manuals and diagnostic tools, including ohmmeters and refrigerant recovery equipment.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required; ability to operate a company vehicle and represent CSCM professionally at all client locations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform sustained physical labor including lifting, bending, kneeling, and working in confined or elevated spaces throughout the full duration of a work shift, with jobs routinely requiring lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Comfort working in varying environmental conditions including extreme heat, cold, and outdoor settings, as commercial refrigeration and HVAC service frequently requires work in non-climate-controlled environments.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to operate a company vehicle safely across service routes in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area and surrounding region.

COMPENSATION

This position pays $30–$38 per hour based on experience, with eligibility for a monthly performance bonus of up to $1,000 per month.
